Welcome to the 2026 Junior Boys Rugby Invitational

The Junior Boys Rugby BC Invitational Championship is set to return to the South Surrey Athletic Park from May 22–24, 2026, promising another exciting showcase of the province’s top high school junior boys rugby talent. Following a thrilling 2025 tournament that saw Robert Bateman capture the Championship ahead of the likes of Elgin Park and Earl Marriott, teams will be eager to challenge for the championship and build on last year’s performances. With programs continuing to develop depth and skill across the province, the 2026 edition is expected to feature an even higher level of competition.
Once again, the event will bring together elite teams for three days of fast-paced, physical rugby in a festival-style atmosphere. Fans can expect closely contested matchups, emerging standout players, and the same strong sense of sportsmanship that has defined the tournament. Once again under the leadership of Adam Roberts, the championship will remain a premier event on the BC high school rugby calendar. The 2026 championship is poised to deliver another memorable experience for athletes, coaches, and spectators alike. As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on which program can rise to the occasion and claim the next provincial title.

Junior Boys Rugby Invitational 2025
Tournament Recap

The 2025 Junior Boys Rugby BC Invitational Championship, hosted at  South Surrey Athletic Park delivered a highly competitive three days of action, bringing together top programs from across the province. Tournament play opened on Friday with tightly contested pool games, highlighted by Earl Marriott’s narrow 15–14 victory over St. George’s and Elgin Park edging Yale 17–14. Collingwood established itself early with a strong 31–19 win over Mt. Boucherie, while Robert Bateman showed dominance in their pool with decisive wins, including a 34–7 result over Byrne Creek. Across all pools, teams battled for positioning, setting up an intense playoff round.
Saturday’s crossover matchups further raised the level of competition. St. George’s delivered a commanding 78–0 win over Yale, while Shawnigan Lake rebounded with a 38–0 victory over Rutland. In one of the most significant results of the day, Robert Bateman defeated Collingwood 44–31, signaling their championship potential. Elgin Park continued its consistent play with a solid display of rugby in a 17–12 win over Earl Marriott, reinforcing their place among the tournament’s top contenders. 
On Sunday, the final standings were decided through a series of decisive matches. Earl Marriott secured the Bronze Medal with a bounce back victory after a difficult semi-final defeat, they played with heart and determination leading to a 38–15 victory over Collingwood. Robert Bateman capped off an impressive tournament with a 37–7 win over Elgin Park in the Gold Medal match, Bateman was top class all weekend long, wining all of their games by decisive margins. 

The championship was made possible through the leadership of South Fraser Rugby Commissioner and Tournament Chairman Adam Roberts. His dedication to the game does not go unnoticed, however he really demonstrated his leadership and vision through the recreation of this very special tournament. Much appreciation goes to Eddie Evans and X-Treme for once again supporting the game of Rugby and for always being a participant in these meaningful events. The Junior Boys Rugby Invitational benefited from the dedication of Rugby Officials and the outstanding hospitality provided by Bayside Rugby Club, whose facilities and clubhouse helped create a memorable championship atmosphere for players, coaches, and spectators alike.
